Be grateful.

I know – it’s been a minute since I’ve actually been good at blogging.

Shit Life happens.

But Thankful Thursday is floating around in blog world today and I thought it was a good time to make an appearance. 😉

One of my sweet, sweet friends is dealing with something pretty huge right now. And I’m trying desperately to be there for her as much as I can – but it’s made me take a step back and look at life a little differently.

Life is fleeting.

So today {and everyday} I’m deeply thankful for the people in my life. For my family, my friends, for the core people that I have. Yes, I’ve mentioned it a time or hundred on here before but I don’t think you can ever be too thankful for those people.

You can never enjoy those little moments, too much.

I have been blessed with some of those most extraordinary people, however, I think sometimes we get so caught up in “life” that we forget to say “thank you” or “i love you” or to just bask in the simple, silly moments.

Like I said, life is fleeting – be thankful for those you have.

God knows, I am.

I’m linking up with Mustache Mama for a Coffee Date and Thankful Thursday. And sadly, I just finished my first cup of coffee – I think I’ll have to refill after lunch. Y’all, I’m seriously addicted to hazelnut coffee… this morning I have caramel vanilla creamer in it… YUMMMMM! What are you thankful for? What kind of coffee are you enjoying this morning?

Have a good one, loves.

Happy Hour. {A day late…}

Y’all, I kinda suck this week – already. How does that happen?! I apologize for the lateness of this post.  I was home this weekend and had some wonky wireless and cell service so my little computer, she took a weekend off too. And yesterday – I was tired. End of story. I was snuggled up in bed by 10 {way early for this girl!}

Anywho, moving on…

We are just going to pretend it’s Monday for Happy Hour’s sake – ok? ok!

1. Family time. I spent the weekend at home and, as usual, it was great. But I got to spend a lot of time with a member of the family that I haven’t gotten to in a really long time. And by a lot of time, I mean pretty much the entire weekend aside from while we were sleeping. Which she and I needed – Hollie {my bro’s gf} and I have a lot of fun together – but it had been awhile since we have gotten the chance to just hang out. This weekend was good for that, she learned how weird I am {I don’t like pickles, mayo, or tuna – so, I don’t like foods that smell weird}, I learned how weird she is {she doesn’t want someone to buy things for her – CRAZY girl! ;)}, and we had a blast. And it was even better because we threw Mom in the mix. There’s nothing better than family time. Nothing.

2.Cool mornings. This morning I was armed with a scarf and a chai tea. Those are my favorite kind of mornings. {Aside from the ones where I sleep in…}

3. AT&T. Guys, I’ve had the worst luck with my phone in the last month. I’m not one to usually complain about my phone – as long as I can text, call, and do the essentials I don’t care. And I have a good phone – pretty fancy schmancy. But about two weeks ago it went all weird on me and kept restarting, all. day. long. and then this weekend I lost all signal. I could only use my phone if there was wireless. Which posed a bit of a problem for me. Both times I chatted with someone on the ATT website and they tried all they could, I went to the store, and again, they tried all they could – then I had to go to the device service center and both times – new phones. It’s annoying and frustrating for me. But seriously, ATT rocked. I couldn’t be happier with their customer service. That makes things like that so much easier.

4. Homemade Ice Cream. Do I need to explain this?

5. Jana Kramer. I first heard her when she was on One Tree Hill. But she has recently released her first country album. I love it. I actually think I’ve mentioned this before… but that just goes to show you how much I love her. You should check her out if you haven’t yet…

What’s making YOU happy right now? Link up with Ellie and I – and hopefully next week I’ll be better at getting this post out on Monday. {fingers crossed}

Happy Tuesday, loves!

Redneck Sunday. {and the rest of my weekend.}

Oh, I could do a 3 day weekend every weekend. Who’s with me??

And if you aren’t with me you should go to your doctor and get your head checked. 😉

I came down the country to spend my long weekend with the family. And it was so nice. Friday evening we ordered pizzas and just hung out – followed by beers around the fire with the other Shull boy. Saturday Mom, Leah and I went shopping for a little girls day. Scored a pair of running shoes I’ve been needing and Leah got to pick a couple of new dresses out because there were great sales everywhere! That evening was one of our best friends’ birthdays so Laura made dinner and we hung out and shot the shit all evening. Sunday, {which was my amazing parents’ 34th wedding anniversary – yea, 34… can you believe that?? They are what I want to be one day.}  Bubba and I spent it drinking in our little pool. We got pretty sun burnt, killed far too much beer, but had a blast just hanging out all day. Mom referred to us as rednecks… but whatever, I think she was just jealous – yea, they’re pretty lucky they were blessed with our classy asses for kids. 😉 Needless to say,  it was a refreshing weekend.

I’ll give the floor to instagram and let you see my weekend for yourself…

Dad and Leah reading. // Emmy being lazy. // Mom vacuuming under the couch while we all watch – fine, Friday night fun. 😉

Leah getting her workout on. // Saturday morning on the porch. // My new running shoes. // Austin sporting a very pretty apron.

New straightener Hollie gave me. // The results of my AMAZING new straightener. // Redneck paradise – just add beer and two very crispy siblings. // My “new to me” bag {luckily my cousin, Laura and I have the same taste in bags so we can just trade. #winning}. // The munchkin wearing Bubba’s ear thingys.

Side note – this straightener, seriously – so good. Hollie was SOOO sweet in giving it me, completely unexpectedly, my hair is uber curly and messy {as y’all know} and usually straighteners fry it, make it look super flat, or just don’t do anything good for my hair at all. Not the case with this one, at all. Her Styler products – I am now converted.

And that was my weekend. How was yours???

Happy Tuesday, Kittens!

p.s. Have you “liked” the blog on FB?! I’m thinking there will be a fun giveaway once I hit so many likes! So… what are you waiting for?! And do you follow me on Instagram {jacmaries} if you don’t… do it now. 😉

And then I walked into Target.

I finally settled on a planner – I had my eyes on this adorable one at Barnes & Noble, it had cute little elephants all over it. Totally me. {Because I love elephants, of course. Didn’t know that?! Welp, now ya do!}  But then while I was doing some random shopping at Heaven Target I found this pink planner with lots of lines to write all the things I want to keep track of and… it’s pink. And… it was right next to the new Sharpie pens *gasp* they don’t bleed thru the paper! I may or may not be on cloud 9 with these pens. A Sharpie that doesn’t bleed… dreams are coming true, people.

C’mon I’m not the only one in love with Sharpie’s, right?

Anyways – so planner, check! And stationary – I REALLY don’t need any. I have about a billion different notecard sets… I just need some way of organizing them. {And then hope I actually use them…} I’m still on the lookout for a new bag… I switched everything over to this green and tan bag for the time being {I’m convinced I won’t like it – but, I’m giving it a go… it is cute, just not entirely functional.} And I do actually need new running shoes. My current ones are hurting my tootsies when I workout… I think that’s reason enough to be on the lookout, no?

It’s a much prettier green in real life – not so much Kermit the Frog green.

Y’all, I really love this “it’s okay” link up… I like that page in Glamour magazine – always makes me feel better about life… So join me and link up with Neely and Amber!

Its Ok ThursdaysIt’s Ok…

to be reading more than one book at a time. I’m reading two… and looking for a third… I need a reallyyyyy good one.

to envy the girl at the gym with the super long ponytail – mine will get there one day.

to wear faux glasses – but only when it’s raining out. It’s hard to wear sunglasses with faux glasses…

to be craving fall fashion. Layers, boots, more options…

that on the same token, I’m never, ever gonna be ready for winter.

to wish you could fix everything for everyone. But realize that you can’t… and that all you can do is just hope for the best.

to have just worked your bum off at the gym and then come home and devour a cupcake – it evens out, right? p.s. it was a damn good cupcake at that – I don’t know who made them but holy deliciousness.

to be excited to get home this weekend and see everyone.

Happy Thursday, lovers!

It’s okay to be thankful…

I love this blog link up “Hey it’s okay and Thankful for…” wrapped up into one post. Join Neely at A Complete Waste of Makeup, Amber at Brunch with Amber, and Tracy at Then I Got to Thinking for this fun Thursday mashup.

Its Ok Thursdays

It’s okay…

to skip the gym two days in row. Everyone needs a break, right?

to write a cheat sheet of photog tips to remember while second shooting a wedding tomorrow.

to loathe the 99 degree weather AND the 20 degree weather. I like a nice 70 degree day, I don’t think that’s too much to ask for.

to kindly ask Tric if he could clean up all the fur he seems to be shedding. #damnlonghairedcats

to enjoy some J.D. in my rootbeer this week. It’s been my only real indulgence. I think it’ll be ok.

to not put away my clothes today even though they’re all nicely clean and folded.

to suck at blogging every once in awhile.

to eat a chocolate covered oreo AFTER you’ve already decided to skip the gym.

I’m thankful for…

my amazing family and friends.

Starbucks iced tea and red bull.

my job.

old friends becoming new again.

lazy summer days.

the opportunity to be creative everyday.

my gym membership – I love getting back to working out again.

What are you thankful for today??

I’ll be your honey bee…

Disclaimer: This may be my most random blog post yet. 😉

Didn’t get the Blake Shelton song reference? No? Hmmm… oh well… #youshouldlistentocountrymusicmoreoften #justsayin

So back to the honey bees… well, a few weeks ago when I went home for the weekend – I no sooner got home and dropped my stuff in the living room and my dad was taking me outside to show me this MASSIVE collection of honey bees on one of our trees. He had watched them come across the field in a swarm and land in this tree. It was insane! I could actually get pretty close to them and they weren’t bothered at all {this was a huge feat for me because when I was 28 years old younger whenever a bee would get within 5 ft of me I’d scream to high heavens – seriously, you’d have thought someone was trying to kill me}.

How crazy is that? They were gone the next morning. I think it’d have been pretty cool to see them buzzzz away.

Anyways, I can’t believe it’s almost Friday… and even more unbelievable – where the heck did June go?! *sigh* summer is flying by… I need some more pool time. Stat!

Hope y’all are having a great week. Happy Thursday, kittens!

It’s the little things…

  • Like when Tric runs into the room and finds the bug that I, for the life of me, can not find. Seriously, how do animals do that? Thank goodness though, cause I wasn’t going to sleep a wink until this ugly bug was found. What? I’m a girl, I don’t like them. This is why we need animals, people… without them… we would be constantly wondering where those damn bugs were.
  • Discovering unknown gorgeous roads in your part of town. My friend, Ryan, and I have been going for daily 3-4 mile walks and have been trying to take different routes each day and upon doing this we found this beautiful winding, country-esque road in the middle of the city. It even smelled like home… little streams trickling down the sides of road, huge trees, and just very untouched. I’m kind of in love with it.
  • Knowing that some of my absolute favorite people are coming up to visit on Saturday evening… makes. my. week. I love when I get to see my family and when I know they miss me… it warms my heart. I’m such a sap girl.
  • Stumbling upon old photos. Sometimes it’s so sweet {and sad} to relive those moments. Most seem like a lifetime ago, most were, but they were still such wonderful moments.
  • Unexpected girls nights. Drinks and a movie with two of my bestest ladies… um, of course. And I can not wait to see The Lucky One… I’m a sucker for a good romance and my bestie in MN said it’s fantastic.
  • Good hair days… c’mon ladies… you know what I’m talking about. Today wasn’t necessarily one of them, but I was wishing for it. What is it about those days that just make us feel like we can take on the world??
  • Rainy nights. They are the best thing to fall asleep to. And a storm just adds to it. I think it’s peaceful and soothing… until it’s still raining in the morning… then, I just want to sleep in.
  • Wearing dresses. Like I need to explain that. 😉
  • A text from my Daddy saying he misses me. Best. Thing. Ever.

What’s making you smile this week?

Happy Tuesday, sweets. I’ll be sure to let y’all know how The Lucky One is 🙂

Life. {Via Instagram}

Ohhh Instagram, how I love thee. I wish I had taken more pictures this weekend… but, I didn’t. How cute is Swag? He’s my bro and Hollie’s pup and he’s a giant! But sooo lovable. And I did some drinkin’ this weekend… Jack, tea, coffee… {Jack failed at making me feel better.} And those boys… two of my bestest guys {the blonde’s my bro – the birthday boy}.

I woke up Saturday morning feeling so yucky. Sore throat, stuffy nose, coughing… the works. And that wasn’t boding well for me because I had a busy day – work and my brothers birthday celebration. So I made myself some tea and ignored the sickness that was setting in. It was such a rainy, rainy day for a scavenger hunt – but it was a lot of fun despite the rain and being sick. We had to do everything from get a random person’s number {which I did, then got asked out on a date – by a 20 year old – I’m almost 29, guys. Needless to say we had a good laugh} we had to do a shot with a random person {that turned out comical – Amy ended up doing a shot with a friend of mine from HS – so we cheated a bit, whatevs} we had to skinny dip in Lake Logan {we didn’t do that one – ran out of time} and visit a legendary “haunted” rock in our area… among LOTS of other things.

Sunday I had a lazy day around the house, sat on the porch and soaked up the beautiful day. I wish I hadn’t felt so sick, I’d have loved to go for a hike. Oh well.

{I realize it’s halfway thru the week and I’m posting about the past weekend – it’s my blog, I do what I want. ;)}

Happy hump day, dolls!

A little bit of randomness. {again}

I haven’t worn my hair curly in awhile. And as much as I love how I have been wearing my hair – it kind of feels like I’m betraying myself a bit. {Yes, that’s weird. I know.} But, I needed a change for a bit and am trying to not color my hair… well, any other color than blonde. 😉

Life is too short to hold a grudge. What do you really gain when you can’t forgive or forget the little things? It takes a hell of a lot more energy to dislike and judge someone than it does to just let it go. When we look back 5 years from now, will any of it really matter aside from the good memories? No. Bitterness gets you nowhere. — That goes out to anyone who may need it.

I started the Hunger Games months ago and have LOVED it – but I’m stuck on book 2 {Catching Fire} and haven’t read a lick in quite some time. I think I need to change that. Today.

Eric Church {my new obsession} keeps mentioning Jack D. in his song {he’s a real country boy, kids} and it’s kinda making me want a Jack and coke. Don’t judge, it’s the weekend.

Went to a magic/comedy show last night. Michael Kent is f’ing hilarious – and a great magician. I was beyond amazed! If you get the chance to see him – do it. You won’t regret it. This, I promise you.

I’m really proud of my best friends. They all are doing such amazing things with their lives and I’m so happy I get to be a part of it, everyday. There is nothing better than seeing people you love – doing what they love. It’s truly inspiring.

Soy milk makes me want to gag. But I LOVE it in my coffee.

One of my best friends moved halfway across the country two months ago – we’ve talked more in the time she has left than we had in over a year. Life is funny sometimes.

This past week I had my aunt text me telling she was thinking about me, my brother text me telling me I need to get my ass home {exact words. He’s sweet, right?}, Hollie {his gf} tell me I need to come home soon, and both of parents telling me they miss me. It’s the little things that get you through. I’m a lucky girl.

Happy Monday, kids.

Hope my non existent boyfriend pulls through with those Hunter boots for President’s Day. 😉
